OUR HISTORY

Original owner Don Dampier began his career in Aliwal North in 1967 with a Chrysler/Valiant franchise. He earned the nickname Prince Valiant locally after selling no fewer than 22 new Valiants in one month in the district. Don went on to run a number of successful franchises in both Aliwal North and Queenstown for Delta, Mazda/Sigma and BMW, building on a reputation for quality and fairness.

His son David joined Dampier Motors Port Elizabeth in 2001 after a successful career as a chef, having spent seven years in Australia before opening the popular Aviemore Restaurant in Port Elizabeth.

“One of the factors that made my decision to join the motor industry was my Dad’s experience and reputation in the industry.”

The success and longevity of Dampier Motors is based on 3 core principles – honesty, quality and service.

Gary Dampier continues to fly the flag in Aliwal North, running two successful franchises – GM and Nissan. Don is semi-retired, but is still actively involved in Purchases and Sales. He sits in an open corner of the showroom (much to his disgust) reading the Herald, slicing biltong and waiting for his commission – a bottle of Johnny Walker Black.
